Mackay Office:

Megan McCollum – Director
Megan has the technical and management skills to drive any major project from concept to finalisation. As Principal Environmental Officer with the Department of Mines and Energy, Megan has an intimate understanding of the complexities and practical application of the legislation, guidelines and policies administered by the (former) Queensland Environmental Protection Agency and the (former) Department of Natural Resources Mines and Water. Megan has worked extensively in the field and has gained the respect and support of key stakeholders throughout the Bowen Basin. It is her knowledge of these stakeholders which can contribute to highly effective stakeholder engagement. With a Bachelor of Applied Science and over 13 years environmental experience in the coal mining sector, Megan can make a difference to your project.

Paul Tett - Senior Environmental Adviser

Professionally trained with a Bachelor of Science in Australian Environmental Studies, Paul has the technical and practical horsepower to drive your project home. He specialises in the legislative requirements for projects at all levels and the preparation of regulatory documents. Paul excels at environmental consulting building on his successful eleven year career as a mine site environmental professional in Tasmania, Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland gaining experience in Copper, Tin, Gold, Mineral Sands and Coal. Over the last eight years Paul has prepared significant project submissions for Mining Tenure Applications, Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Management Plans, Plans of Operations, Environmental Authority applications and amendments, Statutory Environmental Audits and Commonwealth Referrals.

Jerilly Blank – Senior Environmental Adviser

Jerilly has a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Geography (Environment and Resources and Biophysical) from the University of Queensland. Her tertiary education led her into an illustrious career with the (former) Queensland Environmental Protection Agency. Her experience with the Agency took her from the Waste Management branch and Contaminated Land Unit in Brisbane, to their Maryborough office and from 2003 she was based in the Mackay office of the EPA in roles varying from Senior Environmental Officer to Principal Environmental Officer and Acting District Manager. Jerilly has a wealth of experience with the Queensland Mining sector and her practical nature is respected throughout the industry. Her experience provides her with a solid basis for interpreting Queensland’s legislative and compliance requirements.

Kalya Abbey - Environmental Adviser
Kalya completed a Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) in 2006 focusing on soil agronomy and water resource management. Kalya's career commenced in the Queensland sugar industry where she gained experience in consulting with landholders, developing regional plans on water quality and environmental sustainability, and developing land and water management plans for individual operations. Kalya possesses key strengths in stakeholder liaison and an expanding technical knowledge of land and water systems. Kalya currently manages a number of projects in the McCollum Environmental portfolio centred on environmental, cultural heritage and tenure management services for a variety of mining industry clients.

Megan Edward - Environmental Officer
Megan graduated with an honours degree in Environmental Science (Ecology) from the University of Queensland in 2007. Megan's honours degree examined the potential effects of various disturbances on a mound springs ecosystem located in arid Australia. Her degree focused primarily on areas such as conservation policy, land management and environmental legislation, along with field based ecology courses in both Central and South East Queensland. Megan possesses excellent communication skills and exceptional attention to detail. Megan is a highly motivated team member, and provides technical assistance to senior staff members, with expertise in the areas of GIS mapping and emissions reporting.

Bevan Harris - Environmental Officer
Bevan completed his Bachelor of Science degree in 2004 at Waikato University, New Zealand. Bevan subsequently completed a Diploma in Marine Studies from the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, New Zealand. Upon graduation, Bevan work as a team leader on the Carbon Monitoring and Biodiversity System. Bevan’s role primarily focused on gathering botanical and carbon data in remote parts of the North Island for ratification of the Kyoto Protocol. Since moving to Australia in 1997, Bevan has gained experience within the Western Australia minerals industry working as an Environmental Consultant. Bevan’s responsibilities included conducting Flora and Fauna surveys and assessments and developing reports for proposed mining activities. Bevan’s skills will bring to MEMS the ability to focus on mitigation measures for endangered regional ecosystems.

Shaun Collins - Environmental Officer
Shaun graduated with a degree in Environmental Science in 2007. As part of his studies Shaun undertook a year long research project examining the effects of human disturbances on flora and fauna communities in urban bushland. Shaun's passion and interest in environmental management has led him to studying a Masters Degree in Environmental Management part time focusing on land assessment and ecology. Having worked as a research technician Shaun is experienced with analysing and interpreting data. This has equipped him to effectively solve problems and provide valuable support to senior staff. Shaun's enthusiasm and eagerness to learn and support clients will create effective solutions for any environmental need.

Tanya Chipperfield - Office Manager
Tanya has extensive experience in administrative work in a number of different organisations including private companies and local councils. Her warm personal qualities and helpful nature affords a bright and friendly first point of contact for the McCollum Environmental office. Tanya provides valuable administrative support to the entire McCollum Environmental team. Her dedication, meticulousness and ability to focus on the task at hand ensures that all staff needs are met and our clients are provided with a superior level of service.


Brisbane Office:

Trevor Noyce - Technical Services and Business Development Manager
Trevors distinguished 30 year working career with the Department of Mines and Energy has enabled him to gain vital skills for application to the private sector. Trevor was previously a key employee with the Department responsible for project managing tenure related matters under the Mineral Resources Act. Trevor took the opportunity to move from the government into private sector with one of Queenslands major independent Energy and Coal companies and developed a powerful network of resources, working in strategic alliances with differing facets of the business. Trevors role has provided him the opportunity to fully utilise his strong negotiation, conflict resolution and presentation skills. His strong relationships are a testament to the work Trevor puts into being honest with stakeholders. With his move to the McCollum Environmental team, Trevor will play a key role in the development of new projects whilst being able to respond to the demands of key head office partners McCollum Environmental currently provides services to.

Ngaire Tranter - Environmental Adviser
Ngaire is due to complete her degree in Environmental Science with Central Queensland University in 2009. Her studies have been focussed in the areas of resource management, impact assessments and environmental legislation. Ngaire's previous employment experience has been in the field of client relations which facilitates delivery of excellent service in her new role. Ngaire supports the senior members of the McCollum Environmental team by providing technical and field assistance.

Karen Hartley - Environmental Adviser
Karen graduated from Griffith University in 2004 with an Environmental Management degree. She majored in Land and Water Management focusing on the particular aspects of catchment management, conflict resolution, community environmental education and environmental policy. Since graduation, Karen has worked in local government in the Environmental Health and Environmental Education fields. Her experience as Team Leader of a Community Bushcare Program has equipped her with high level communication and negotiation skills, excellent organisational skills and technical knowledge in bush restoration and management, onsite monitoring and evaluation, training facilitation and community consultation.

Melanie Bourke - Environmental Officer
Melanie completed her Bachelor of Science in 2003 and is currently undertaking her Masters Degree in Environmental Management part-time at the University of Central Queensland. Her studies have focused on environmental management systems, resource management and environmental rehabilitation. Melanie possesses exceptional customer service and organisational skills, a high work ethic and meticulous attention to detail. Melanie is continually expanding her work portfolio in the areas of environmental management, cultural heritage and tenure management, and is developing specific expertise in the preparation of environmental approvals and submissions.

Ashley Sizeland - Environmental Officer
Ashley graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Queensland in 2003, majoring in marine biology and aquaculture . Ashley possesses sound analytical skills and a keen attention to detail, developed through his professional background as a laboratory supervisor. Ashley's current portfolio includes a variety of environmental, tenure and cultural heritage management projects, which he approaches with a high level of enthusiasm and a strong desire to achieve client goals. Ashley holds key strengths in cultural heritage management processes, and is continually expanding his technical knowledge of environmental legislation and the approvals system.
